Abstract
The rapid development of South Korean popular culture through the phenomenon of Korean Wave (Hallyu), which currently serves not only as entertainment, but also as a platform that shows social and cultural discourse. Korean dramas have become one of the products of the Korean Wave that has an important role in representing social realization, including the gender equivalent that is still a problem in South Korea. This study analyzed the political construction of women in the media that was shown in Korean drama Tempest. Since the 4B movement by South Korean women, nowadays many media outlets are starting to lift up are gender about. One of the drama's leading roles is the Korean gender Tempest Performed Through the Three Female Politicians in It, namely Seo Mun-ju, Lim Ok-seon, and Chae Kyung-sin. This study aims to analyze how female politicians are constructed on Korean drama Tempest. Research uses descriptive qualifications with the Sara Mills model's critical discourse analysis method which has 4 main elements: verbal and discursive narrative levels, level visualization, subject-object position, and audience position. Research results found through analytical four major elements but show that Korean drama Tempest shows a shift in gender discourse experienced by female politicians especially Seo Mun-ju. Through narration and visuals shown showing the active role of female politicians in public spaces, especially in the same political world dominated by men. Thus, the female politician of the Korean drama Tempest was constructed as an active subject who rejected stereotypes through women's power, leadership, empathy, and strategic capacities.
