Abstract
The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has influenced the ways in which humans form emotional connections, including the emergence of attachment-like relationships between humans and AI. The film Wonderland portrays this type of relationship through interactions that create the illusion of AI possessing empathy and emotional presence. This study aims to analyze how human-AI attachment is represented in Wonderland using John Fiske’s semiotic analysis method. A qualitative descriptive approach is employed, with data collected through observations of scenes, dialogues, and visual and auditory elements within the film. The analysis is conducted across Fiske’s three levels of meaning: the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. The results indicate that, at the reality level, human-AI relationships are represented through social signs such as expressions, gestures, and conversations that convey emotion. At the representation level, cinematic techniques including camera angles, frame size, and lighting are utilized to construct the illusion of presence and closeness between humans and AI. Meanwhile, at the ideology level, Wonderland reflects posthumanist ideologies that normalize human-machine relationships.
