Abstract
Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. Given the significant number of people practicing Islam, education is essential for the younger generation. Especially with the advancement of globalization, which undoubtedly brings negative impacts to children. Therefore, one alternative education option for the younger generation is conventional schools based on Islam. The city of Surabaya has a majority Muslim population. Because of this, educational institutions grounded in religious principles are very important in this metropolitan city. However, the limited educational facilities for Senior High Schools (Sekolah Menengah Atas) in Surabaya have not yet accommodated the number of Junior High School graduates. Hence, there is a need for the design of an educational institution in the category of Senior High School in the form of an Islamic School in Surabaya. To support the Islamic School which embraces an international curriculum, a contemporary architectural approach is necessary. This approach is considered very suitable for the education that will be implemented in a conventional Islamic school, especially in the context of creating innovative and adaptive learning spaces that respond to global developments.
