Abstract
The Indonesian creative economy sector has experienced fluctuations since 2018-2023, with the creative economy sector experiencing an increase of 11.06% in the first to fourth quarters of 2023, despite the influence of global geopolitics affecting partner countries. East Java Province ranks third in terms of the number of workers in the creative economy sector, with 3,863,866 million people. Surabaya is one of the cities with the highest number of actors in East Java, with around 142,438 business units. The existing creative spaces in Surabaya are still not integrated and are privately owned, scattered across many locations. This distribution is considered ineffective in terms of time, energy, and costs for creative economy actors. The Bubutan area of Surabaya has a heterogeneous community and historical traces of Javanese, colonial, and Chinese ethnic groups. Based on Surabaya City Regulation Number 4 of 2021 concerning the 2021-2026 Surabaya City Medium-Term Development Plan, it is important to establish a creative economy center in the city of Surabaya. The Surabaya Creative Center (SCC), with its iconic architectural principles, will serve as a platform to enhance creative economic activities, fostering greater creativity, innovation, and productivity. The space is designed through the implementation of a hybrid architecture blending three elements: Javanese-Colonial (Indis), Chinese, and Modern Architecture, aiming to become a distinctive icon in the Bubutan area of Surabaya. The presence of the SCC can serve as an identity for the City of Surabaya.
