Abstract
The preliminary design of a potassium sulfate (K₂SO₄) manufacturing plant using magnesium sulfate heptahydrate (MgSO₄·7H₂O) and potassium chloride (KCl) as raw materials through a precipitation process. The plant is designed to produce 55,000 tons of potassium sulfate per year and will be located in Manyar, Gresik. The production process includes dissolution, reaction at 60°C and 1 atm, solid-liquid separation, drying, and particle size standardization. The by-product, magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MgCl₂·6H₂O), can be utilized for industrial purposes. Based on the economic analysis, the project shows an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 20.9%, a Payback Period (PBP) of 3 years and 8 months, and a Break-Even Point (BEP) of 32%. The establishment of this plant is expected to enhance domestic fertilizer production capacity and contribute to Indonesia’s industrial self-sufficiency.
