Abstract

This research is based on society’s growing awareness of a healthy lifestyle, which has driven the growth of wellness tourism, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. Forest healing is one form of wellness tourism activity that utilizes natural environments to support physical well-being and mental recovery. Bukit Kuneer, located within the Wonosari Tea Plantation in Malang, is one such area that holds significant potential for forest healing development by optimizing existing land use and environmental assets. This study aimed to identify the development potential of forest healing at Bukit Kuneer based on the criteria outlined in the Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI, 2021). This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through direct observation and interviews with site managers Bukit Kuneer. Data analysis referred to the forest healing indicators in the Standar Nasional Indonesia (2021), combined with findings from previous studies. The results of this study showed that Bukit Kuneer fulfilled most of the key criteria to be developed as a forest healing site. The site met essential indicators related to physical characteristics, aesthetics, and environmental carrying capacity. Tourists also experienced aspects of forest healing including memorable experiences, emotional satisfaction, and perceived benefits, despite the absence of a formal forest healing tour package. However, further development still required improvements in supporting facilities, human resources, and educational interpretation for visitors. Bukit Kuneer holds strong potential to become a leading forest healing destination in East Java by optimizing thematic features that focus on wellness and natural restoration.
