Abstract

Hexavalent Chromium is a toxic and carcinogenic pollutant frequently found in industrial wastewater from processes such as electroplating, leather tanning, and textile dyeing, thus necessitating efficient and sustainable treatment methods. This research investigates the capability of resin-immobilized photocatalysts (RIPT) based on TiO2 and ZnO as an effective alternative technology for treating electroplating, batik, and artificial wastewater containing Cr6+ using a continuous reactor. In this study, TiO2 and ZnO photocatalysts were immobilized onto a resin to enhance stability, minimize catalyst loss, and facilitate post-reaction separation, making them ideal for continuous reactor applications. Tests were conducted on simulations of various types of wastewater with varying Cr6+ concentrations, as well as operational parameters such as tubidity, pH, temperature, and contact time. The results show that the capacity of RIPT decreased with sampling time, and the best type of RIPT for reducing Cr6+ was RIPT-TiO2. Among the three types of wastewater, the best Cr6+ removal was observed in electroplating wastewater, while batik wastewater achieved the highest removal percentage of 89.14%, but experienced a decrease in subsequent minutes.
