Abstract
This study aims to analyze the representation of psychological violence in the film "The Equalizer 3" using John Fiske's semiotic approach. Psychological violence in the film is not only depicted through direct action, but also through symbols, gestures, and dialogue that reflect domination, threat, and mental control over other characters. This study focuses on how the meaning of psychological violence is constructed in the film's visual and verbal narrative through John Fiske's three levels of semiotic codes: reality, representation, and ideology. The method used is a qualitative-descriptive analysis, with data collection techniques through observation of scenes and dialogue in the film. The results show that psychological violence in "The Equalizer 3" is represented through verbal intimidation, threatening facial expressions, and symbolic actions such as gunpointing without physical contact. At the ideological level, the film reflects power, moral control, and personal justice, as embodied by the main character as a vigilante. This study concludes that "The Equalizer 3" effectively constructs a narrative of psychological violence as a primary strategy for fostering fear, obedience, and domination without direct physical violence. This representation also demonstrates how psychological violence becomes a tool to uphold subjective justice while simultaneously critiquing weak social and legal norms.
