Abstract

This study aims to analyze how highly engaged netizen comments on YouTube reproduce and disseminate the framing of the “kampung penadah” (receiver village) stigma against Sukolilo Village, Pati, Central Java. The research employs a qualitative content analysis approach based on Krippendorff’s method. Data were collected from the YouTube video “Penelusuran Desa Sukolilo Pati yang Dicap Kampung Penadah,” uploaded by CNN Indonesia on June 11, 2024. The study applies three main theories: framing theory (Entman), two-step flow theory (Katz & Lazarsfeld), and stigma theory (Goffman). The findings reveal that the media’s negative framing is reinforced by high-interaction comments functioning as digital opinion leaders. These comments not only replicate media narratives but also shape new discourses through labeling, stereotyping, and the reinforcement of stigma. The process illustrates the active role of digital publics in constructing social meaning and influencing collective perception. This study affirms that in the digital era, stigma formation is a two-way process between the media and users, sustaining social hierarchies through symbolic interaction. Keyword: framing, netizen comments, stigma, two-step flow, digital media
