Abstract
Currently, the topic of women is often discussed, it is identical to beauty. With the existence of media, it will increasingly form a standard of beauty that can be depicted through films or advertisements with the depiction of perfect female characters. Korean drama as one form of entertainment media that can provide an entertaining effect and invite the audience to imagine through stories that van describe various aspects of life. Korean drama has become an inseparable part of the routine of people in various pf the world, including Indonesia. On of the Korean dramas that discusses the issue of women’s beauty is Mask Girl. This study aims to reveal the discourse of female beauty in drama Mask Girl. This study uses a qualitative approach with Teun A. Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis which will linked to Naomi Wolf’s theory of beauty myths. The focus of this study is how this Korean drama represents beauty standards and is linked to Naomi Wolf’s theory od beauty myths. The results of study indicate that beauty standards are used as a toll to discriminate against women, where women who meet these standards are used as a tool to discriminate against women, where women who meet these standards will receive beauty privileges, while those who do not meet the standards will receive social pressure and tend to be ignored. Drama Mask Girl depicts women who are often judged and treated based on their physical appearance, creating deep psychological pressure that causes to experience physical changes. Through text analysis, social cognition, and social context, this study concludes that the drama Mask Girl not to only represents social reality, but also criticizes the myth of beauty that is used as a control of women.
