Abstract

This study aims to analyze the competitiveness and factors influencing the export volume of Indonesian Arabica coffee beans (HS Code 0901.11.10) to Japan during the period 2008–2023. The methods used include the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) analysis to measure competitiveness, as well as the Error Correction Model (ECM) model to evaluate the influence of production, the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar, and the international price of coffee on export volume. The results of the study show that Indonesian coffee has high competitiveness in the Japanese market (RCA > 1). Coffee production has a positive and significant influence on export volumes both in the short and long term. The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar shows a significant negative influence in the long term but not significantly in the short term. International coffee prices have a significant negative effect on exports, showing the sensitivity of the Japanese market to prices. The ECM model shows that short-term imbalances will be corrected significantly within a period. The proposed policy implications include increasing coffee productivity, stable exchange rate management, trade diplomacy that is adaptive to quality standards, and diversifying export destination markets. Keywords: Competitiveness, Coffee exports, RCA, ECM, Exchange rate, Coffee production, International prices
