Abstract
This project aims to design a glucose production plant utilizing corn starch as the raw material through an acid hydrolysis process. The plant is designed to operate semi-continuously with an annual production capacity of 70,000 tons and 330 operational days per year. The process begins with the dissolution of corn starch into a slurry, followed by solid-liquid separation using a rotary vacuum filter. The resulting starch solution is then hydrolyzed in a reactor using sulfuric acid as a catalyst, converting starch into glucose at 90°C and 1 atm over 90 minutes with a 97% conversion rate. The glucose solution is then purified through centrifugation and neutralized using sodium hydroxide, producing sodium sulfate as a by-product. Further purification and concentration are conducted through evaporation and condensation, after which the concentrated glucose solution is crystallized. Wet glucose crystals are separated, dried using a rotary dryer and cyclone, then cooled and milled to a uniform 100 mesh size. The final product is stored in silos and packaged in 10 kg plastic bags. The plant will be established in Cilegon, Serang Regency, Banten Province, and is organized as a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line-and-staff organizational structure, employing 160 workers. Raw material requirements include 12,629.53 kg/h of corn starch, 4,749.05 kg/h of sulfuric acid, and 32,070.94 kg/h of sodium hydroxide. Utilities required include 58.12 kWh of electricity, 745.57 m³/h of water, 69,293.62 lb/h of fuel, and 74,483.65 lb/h of steam. The economic analysis indicates a Fixed Capital Investment (FCI) of IDR 314.02 billion, a Working Capital Investment (WCI) of IDR 1.66 trillion, and a Total Capital Investment (TCI) of IDR 1.97 trillion. With a total production cost of IDR 6.66 trillion and revenue of IDR 7.71 trillion, the project yields an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 21.20%, a payback period of 1.89 years, a pre-tax ROI of 45%, a post-tax ROI of 34%, and a break-even point of 33%. These indicators confirm that the project is technically and economically feasible.
