Abstract
The culture of the Sasak people in Lombok is one of Indonesia’s enduring cultural heritages. However, it faces significant challenges due to globalization and the lack of educational media that aligns with current technological developments. The younger generation, as cultural heirs, is increasingly influenced by foreign cultures, leading to a decline in interest and understanding of local values. Therefore, an approach that bridges tradition and technology is needed to preserve culture in a more effective and adaptive way. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative method with a field study approach conducted in February to March 2025 in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with cultural figures, local artisans, and cultural institutions, as well as direct observations in Sade and Karang Bajo villages. The collected data were analyzed to identify core issues, user needs, and the potential of visual media as a means to introduce Sasak culture. The analysis results indicate that interactive visual media supported by technology has strong potential in presenting Sasak culture in an engaging and educational manner. Based on these findings, a visual book titled Jama’ Jama’ was designed, combining graphic design elements with Augmented Reality (AR) technology. This book not only conveys cultural content but also provides an interactive experience that enhances interest among youth and tourists. The design concept emphasizes simplicity and harmony with nature, reflected in both the visual aesthetics and narrative choices. This AR-based visual book is expected to serve as an alternative and relevant medium for preserving Sasak culture. Beyond being an educational tool, it functions as a form of visual documentation that strengthens local identity in the digital age. This project exemplifies how innovation in visual communication design can bridge the past and the present without diminishing the authenticity of the cultural heritage. Keywords: Sasak culture, visual media, Augmented Reality, cultural preservation, interactive book
