Abstract
Preschool-aged children (3–6 years old) are in a crucial period of social and emotional development. However, many of them experience excessive shyness, which affects their self-confidence, courage, and communication skills. Based on interviews and questionnaires conducted at Tunas Mekar Kindergarten, it was found that most children struggle to express themselves and make independent decisions. This indicates the need for a medium that can support children's emotional development in an enjoyable and age-appropriate way. The design of this educational media uses the Design Thinking method, which focuses on user needs. The process includes five stages: empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing. Data was collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires with parents and teachers. The findings revealed that preschool children absorb messages more easily through visual approaches and role-playing activities. The media designed is an interactive storybook supported by a hand puppet of the main character. The book features simple, relatable stories, colorful illustrations, and interactive elements on each page that encourage active participation from children. The hand puppet helps to strengthen children's engagement with the story and foster a warmer connection between the child and adults, such as teachers or parents. This educational media is expected to be an effective tool in nurturing self-confidence and courage in preschool children. Additionally, it aims to enhance adult involvement in the child’s learning process, create enjoyable learning experiences, and help children better manage their emotions.
