Abstract
Social media has changed cultural narratives, including the construction of grief created through content on TikTok using popular music. One interesting phenomenon is the use of the song “Gala Bunga Matahari” by Sal Priadi. This song expresses longing and loss, but also brings hope for a future meeting. The difference in discourse is seen in the melancholic sad songs of the past, while today's sad songs are more optimistic. This study aims to analyze the construction of the grief narrative on TikTok through the song, using descriptive qualitative methods and digital discourse analysis. The objects of the study were three TikTok videos with high engagement that used the song “Gala Bunga Matahari,” focusing on texts and digital discourses about grief. Data were collected through media texts, observations, and literature studies, then analyzed by paying attention to four aspects: text (semiotic elements), context (meaning behind the text), actions and interactions (effects on others), and ideology and power (certain power relationships). The results show a shift in the meaning of grief. If in the past grief was personal, now grief has become something that is a public spectacle on social media. The song “Gala Bunga Matahari” not only represents sadness but is also packaged for public consumption on TikTok. This is supported by public interest in someone's personal life and the potential for financial gain from viral content. This study concludes that grief is no longer entirely a private domain, but has become part of a commercial digital culture. Keywords: Digital Discourse Analysis, “Gala Bunga Matahari”, Grief Narrative, TikTok
