Abstract
Jami’ Al-Abror Sidoarjo Mosque, established in 1678, is the oldest mosque in Sidoarjo and holds a significant role in the propagation of Islam in the region. Located on Jalan Gajahmada, behind a shopping plaza, the mosque's current modern architectural style makes it difficult to recognize as the oldest mosque in Sidoarjo. Furthermore, the lack of documented archives such as records or paintings about its early history has caused a disconnect in its historical narrative, leaving only oral stories passed down through generations by local residents. Public awareness, especially among the younger generation, of the mosque's historical significance and role remains very limited, despite their crucial role in preserving this heritage for the future. To prevent further disconnection from its history, the author has designed a historical book aimed at engaging younger readers, supplemented with illustrations to increase their interest in history, particularly local history. This book covers the history of the mosque, its founders, and its development over the years, referencing the 1970 seminar conducted by the mosque’s caretakers and oral traditions that are part of the local storytelling heritage. The design of this book also incorporates imaginative reconstruction, where illustrations are based on archival historical documents in the form of photos and paintings, as well as films set in the same era as the mosque's establishment. These various sources provide visual references that support the reconstruction of characters based on existing history, making the final depiction more representative in portraying the founders of Masjid Jami' Al-Abror Sidoarjo.
