Abstract

Music, as a dynamic cultural product, continues to evolve over time and adapts to human needs. Initially regarded as sacred, music has increasingly become a medium for entertainment and self-expression, particularly within the indie music scene. This scene provides a space for interaction that supports musicians, audiences, and the music ecosystem in an independent manner. Indie music, which began to develop in Indonesia in the 1980s, emerged from an idealism that rejects the dominance of the mainstream music industry. Its growth is now driven by digitalization, enabling musicians to utilize the internet and social media platforms, such as Bandcamp, to produce, market, and directly engage with their audiences. These platforms facilitate direct feedback through features like listening parties, ensuring the sustainability of independent musicians. Digitalization has made music more accessible and significantly impacted the music economy, reflecting society's enthusiasm for the ever-evolving music culture and the dynamic interactivity between musicians and listeners. This research is a descriptive qualitative study employing virtual ethnographic methods, with research subjects including users of Bandcamp's listening party feature and the event "SDR-37 Sonic Archive Fleuro Listening Party." Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The findings indicate that the virtual interactions occurring in this context are forms of associative social interactions, resulting from positive communication. Additionally, elements of digital activism underpin the activation of listening parties by indie bands.
