Abstract

In this regard, researchers observed how cancel culture in Indonesia is not operating optimally. This is shown by the comeback culture that occurs quickly through social media. The case experienced by Rachel Vennya because of her own actions, as well as the comeback process have relevance in this new culture. The aim of this research is to find out how the millennial generation accepts the comeback phenomenon in Indonesia in the case study of influencer Rachel Vennya through the communication theory used in this research. The type of research used in this research is descriptive research using Stuart Hall's acceptance method, with data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. Informants know and remember how they felt when Rachel Vennya committed controversial actions. Informants felt angry and disappointed. They agreed that cancel culture was something Rachel Vennya could accept. Informants revealed that cancel culture is not working as it should in Indonesia. In the comeback phenomenon there are three categories of informants which are explained using acceptance analysis and the spiral of silence theory. Rachel Vennya has successfully returned to social media with efforts and strategies that utilize social media and the influence of influencers. However, in the process of returning there was disagreement from the informants but they could not express this because of pressure from the majority opinion.
