Abstract
Films can be a reflection of social reality in society that often represents values, norms, conflicts, and social life. One of the most popular genres is the drama genre. One of the movies with a family-themed drama genre is "Kapan Pindah Rumah" produced by KlikFilm. The purpose of this research is to analyze how family communication is represented in the film "Kapan Pindah Rumah". The researcher will observe the representation of family communication using John Fiske's semiotic analysis with the theory of social codes to the scenes depicting family communication which includes the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. The results of this study show that the dimensions and dynamics of family communication in the film "Kapan Pindah Rumah" are influenced by internal and external dimensions, structural dimensions, functional dimensions, openness, empathy, support, positive attitudes, similarity, role changes, family cycle changes. Silent treatment, possessiveness and over-protectiveness cause conflict tension. In addition, researchers also found the ideology of individualism which is depicted through unilateral decision making without involving the extended family.
