Abstract

This research looks at the reception of patriarchal culture within a family in the film "Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap". Using Stuart Hall's reception analysis technique, this research looks at audience reception based on their own experiences. The focus of this research is how the audience sees the patriarchal culture in the family shown in the film "Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap". This film shows a strict father figure in Batak society, emphasizing the patriarchal structure which often ignores the role of women. The results show a variety of audience interpretations of patriarchal depictions. There are those who completely accept it (dominant hegemonic), there are those who change it to their advantage (negotiation), and there are those who completely reject it (oppositional). This study found that, although the patriarchal culture of the Batak family is depicted accurately, it needs to be better understood so that it does not lead to oppression. Fathers have a very important role, not only as leaders and providers, but also as moral educators.
