Abstract

This research aims to determine the representation of lookism in the film series "Mask Girl". The method used is descriptive qualitative type using John Fiske's Semiotic Analysis. The data collection technique uses documentation techniques, with primary data sources from the film "Mask Girl" and secondary data sources from literature studies. The results of the research found forms of lookism representation through several Scenes in the film. Previously, Scenes that had a correlation with the lookism phenomenon were selected and then dissected through John Fiske's semiotic analysis, both at the level of reality, representation and ideology. Based on this analysis, clues were found that lead to the phenomenon of lookism, namely that physical attractiveness is considered important, standardization and grouping are based on appearance, stereotypes appear based on appearance, human affection needs. All of these clues are obtained through codes in appearance, environment, conversation, expressions, behavior, camera, lighting, sound and music that occur in the storyline or characterization in the film. Next, interpretations and conclusions are drawn which ultimately answer the reflection of the ideology of lookism and patriarchy in the film "Mask Girl".
