Abstract

Feminists have utilized the existence of digital space to continue the struggle against injustice and discrimination against women. Women in the public sector are often underestimated and considered no more capable than men. United Nations (UN) reported in May 2023 stated that it would take 140 years for women to reach positions of power and leadership equal to men in the workplace. Liberal feminists around the 20th century have echoed the struggle for equal job opportunities with men. This study aims to know the discourse of women in the public sector displayed on the Najwa Shihab’s YouTube content entitled Retno Marsudi & Sri Mulyani: Women in Power using digital discourse analysis by Jones et al. (2015). The type of approach used is descriptive qualitative with a critical paradigm to see the research phenomena. Digital discourse analysis considers the four important things, they are texts, contexts, actions and interactions, and power and ideology. This study showed that there are four findings in the content: 1) The discourse of women in the public sector experience discrimination due to patriarchal thinking that dominates at the work environment; 2) Career women experience a double workload; 3) Sisterhood and feminine power are one of the way to empowering women; 4) Najwa Shihab's YouTube channel has a feminism ideology. It is important for every individual to have the awareness that all humans are actually the same creatures who have intelligence, so they should have the same rights, obligations, and opportunities in all aspects of life. Therefore, the subordination of women due to gender prejudice is no longer found, both in the public and domestic sectors and the freedom to be whatever they want can be achieved.
