Abstract
PT INKA (Persero) is the first integrated train manufacturing company in Southeast Asia. One of the train products currently being worked on is a 612-car passenger train. However, during the production process defects are often encountered. The end wall component produces the highest defects compared to other components with a defect percentage of 10.8%. Given these problems, research was carried out to analyze the level of defects in end wall components using the Quality Control Circle and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis methods at PT INKA (Persero). This research aims to determine the level of defects in end wall components and provide recommendations for improvements to minimize the defects of end wall components. The results of the research show that the levels of end wall defects from highest to lowest in sequence are end wall flatness defects exceeding tolerance (38%), wavy end wall defects (33%), and scratched end wall defects (29%). Recommendations for improvement given are supervising and emphasizing the welder during briefings to determine and maintain the stability of the amperage and voltmeter according to the WPS used, creating a routine schedule for monitoring welder performance and the welding process, including direct observation, visual inspection of weld results, and evaluation of welding parameters, providing procedure manuals or guidelines that are easy to understand and access by welders. These guidelines should include information on recommended welding parameters, pre- welding techniques, and post-welding maintenance, and the use of tools such as jigs and fixtures to fix the position of the materials to be joined in the correct position during the welding process, and providing sufficient rest time and creating a reward or recognition system for good performance to increase worker motivation and involvement in the production process.
