Abstract

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world with 17,508 islands stretching from Sabang to Merauke. Indonesia is also rich in natural beauty which is also Indonesia's potential in introducing Indonesian tourism to the international world. The tourism industry in Indonesia is one of the most important industrial sectors because it contributes the most to the country's foreign exchange. This is supported by the visits of foreign tourists who enter Indonesia every year. However, in several countries, Indonesia is still not widely known, one of which is South Korea. Compared to other Asian countries, South Korean tourists entering Indonesia are still below the target. To overcome this, the Indonesian government made several efforts, one of which was introducing Indonesia through nation branding. Indonesia has undergone several changes to the nation branding program until 2011, officially becoming Wonderful Indonesia. Prior to the program change, Indonesia used the Visit Indonesia Year program but did not show any significant changes in terms of the number of visits by South Korean tourists. By using Simon Anholt's theory, to achieve nation branding success there are several elements so that a state identity can be formed. Some of these elements include tourism promotion, culture, exports, investment, policies, and society. Through these elements, the Indonesian government is making efforts to South Korea so that South Korean tourists to Indonesia can increase.
