Abstract
The aim of study was to find out the differences in phenotypic performance and the genetic diversity of Tulungagung local varieties of cayenne pepper ( Capsicum frutescens L.) mutants (M2). This study was conducted in Agricultural field of UPN “Veteran” East Java. This study was arranged in a single factor experiment by Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and it’s consisted of 11 mutants and 3 plants without radiation (control) which were repeated 5 times. Observation parameters including quantitative characters (plant height, number of leaves, flowering period, number of flowers, number of fruits, fruit set, fruit length, fruit diameter, weight per fruit and total weight per plant) and qualitative characters (hypocotyl color, cotyledon leaves shapes, stem shapes, stem hairs, types of plant growth, leaves shapes, flower layout, flower crown color, anther color, fruit color in intermediate phase, the color when the fruits are ripe, fruit shapes, color and size of seeds). Data analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA), then Tukey’s Test of 5%, and using genetic parameters including the Coefficient of Genetic Diversity (CGD), the Coefficient of Phenotype Diversity (CPD), the Standard Deviation of Genetic Diversity and Heritability. The study results showed that there were the differences in phenotypic performance towards entirety quantitative characters observed and towards the most of qualitative characters observed. Tulungagung local varieties of cayenne pepper Mutant (M2) has a high genetic diversity, especially in the character of production, i.e. the character of the number of fruit and total fruit weight per plant through the estimation of genetic parameters.
