Abstract
Tooth decay is an oral health problem that is often experienced by children. However, the development of dental health in Indonesian children is still at an alarming stage and tends not to show significant improvement. The causes of cavities in Indonesian children can be triggered by various factors. The lack of sensitivity and education of Indonesian children to dental health problems is a common cause of cavities in Indonesian children. On that basis, the designer will make a picture story book as an educational medium for preventing cavities in children aged 6-8 years. This design has the title "Designing a Picture book as an Educational Media for Preventing Cavities in Children aged 6-8 Years". Picture story books were chosen because the use of reading materials in the form of picture story books will increase students' views and interest in learning. This design uses two methodological stages, namely the preparation stage and the creation stage. The preparation stage includes data collection, data analysis, synthesis, and determination of the design object. Then the creation stage includes pre-production, production, and post-production. The data analysis process used is in the form of descriptive data analysis which explains the important points of the collected data so that these points are used to find solutions to existing problems using the 5W + 1H method, and generate the keyword "Fantasy Educational Journey". The concept of the book is designed to contain a fantasy/fictional themed illustrated story with cavities prevention education as the main theme. Using light language that is easy to understand and attractively packaged with colorful illustrations so that children do not get bored in the process of delivering education. With this picture book, it is hoped that children can learn about their dental health as well as play with their fantasies. Also, make children understand the basics of how to properly care for their teeth using the learning media they like. Keywords : Cavities, Design, Picture books, Education, Prevention
