Abstract
Visual Communication Design (VCD) is a field of study focused on message conveyance through visual media, involving the use of symbols, typography, illustrations, and colors that interact with the sense of sight. VCD encompasses various branches, such as Packaging Design, Branding, and Animation, each playing a crucial role in visual communication. In the educational context, VCD at the University of Pembangunan "Veteran" East Java offers theoretical and practical learning, emphasizing the application of knowledge in an industrial setting through the course of Professional Practice. This course is designed to provide students with direct work experience, enabling them to apply their theoretical and practical knowledge in a real industrial environment. The case study of the author undertaking professional practice at Solar Studio, particularly on the BALITA project, illustrates the importance of this practice in preparing students for the real working world. During the practice, the author was involved in designing layouts for Instagram feeds, learning unique aspects of social media interaction and visual content creation. This experience highlights the significance of professional practice in developing both hard and soft skills, as well as understanding the dynamics of the creative industry. The conclusion drawn from this practice is the importance of adapting skills and knowledge to face competition and industry developments in the future, with specific recommendations for students, companies, and universities to optimize the design process and industry collaboration.
