Abstract
Density and high stress levels in Surabaya can trigger quality poor living related to health in the community. Two factors that can reduce stress levels and support the achievement of a better quality of life in individuals is to establish a relationship with nature (biophilia) and other humans (social life). Biophilic Social Mall is a commercial building to accommodate activities urban lifestyle in Surabaya that combines forms, elements, and natural conditions into a retail environment built to restore mental health visitors. The site is located in a strategic location at the intersection of Jl. Dr. Ir. H. Soekarno and Jl. Raya Soekarno (MERR). The location with high economic value demands appearance and the structure of the Surabaya Biophilic Social Mall building is different from the typology surrounding buildings to become the new icon of the MERR skyline. Selection of the theme "One" with Nature” forms a space design that has a natural and unified atmosphere with site potential. The integration of biophilic design and proxemics approaches creates space for mall users who have a balance between human-nature relations as well as humans. Biophilic Social Mall is designed with a biophilic design approach to accommodate the need for stress reliever space in order to increase satisfaction and mental health of the people of Surabaya City.
