Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out how the Persebaya Surabaya supporters perceive the Persebaya documentary video about the Kanjuruhan Malang tragedy. The research method used as an approach in analyzing research data is a field research method (Field Research). This research method uses qualitative research with the approach of Perception theory and mass media in analyzing the Persebaya documentary video which discusses the Kanjuruhan Malang tragedy and is assisted by Persebaya supporters who have KTA as informants. The results of the study show that this tragedy started when one of Arema's supporters entered the field, thus provoking other supporters to enter the field. When more and more supporters came down to the field, that's when the security forces decided to fire tear gas so that the supporters could be safe and withdraw from the field. Tear gas was fired because at that time the situation in the stadium was no longer conducive. Seeing that the condition of the Kanjuruhan Stadium was no longer conducive due to the large number of supporters who entered the field, the security forces decided to fire tear gas so that the masses would not riot again. At that time more and more supporters entered the field, so the security forces pushed back the crowd by shooting tear gas.
