Abstract

Waste is an ever-present problem, the city of Surabaya produces 811,255.10 tons of waste per year in 2021. One of the efforts by the Surabaya city government to overcome this problem is the sorting of waste which is generally divided into two, namely organic and inorganic. In public places such as city parks, waste sorting facilities are available, but in reality the community has not sorted waste properly. Therefore it is necessary to educate the public to sort waste properly, but education for adults tends to be difficult compared to children and adolescents. Most teenagers already know the difference between waste but have not done it because they still underestimate it. They also still do not know the true benefits of sorting waste. This design uses several methodologies to search and collect data. It is divided into two, namely qualitative data by direct observation at Bungkul park, interviews with park officials and digital comic experts and the trash community. In addition, group interviews were also conducted with nine teenagers to find out their waste segregation habits. While quantitative data using a questionnaire to about 100 teenagers in the city of Surabaya and its surroundings. This questionnaire was conducted to look for visual interests and media tastes of the audience. Data analysis used qualitative and quantitative data analysis, as well as the 5W+1H method and found the keyword “Journey to Improve Impact”. In addition, digital comics are a medium that attracts teenagers and will be uploaded on the Line Webtoon platform, which is the most favorite comic application. In this design, we will use a semi-realist image style with warm and bright colors which are determined based on the results of the questionnaire. By using digital comic media, education on waste sorting for teenagers aged 14-17 years will be more interesting and easier for the target audience to understand so that it can provide information and benefits to change the behavior of teenagers to be obedient in sorting organic and inorganic waste in public places. one is the city park. Keywords: Digital Comics, Education, Waste Sorting, Teenagers
