Abstract
Character education is mandatory for every human being, but with the influence of globalization, it demands superior human competitiveness in science and technology. Globalization also has an impact on environmental aspects, energy sources are running low and there is discomfort. The need for energy consumption is increasing, along with the increasing human population. Sidoarjo district has several problems of thermal discomfort in buildings, including hot temperatures, lack of greenery, high humidity, and not energy-efficient design. The design problem is how to design an International Islamic Boarding School that can facilitate all teaching and learning activities by considering thermal comfort and applying the bioclimatic concept. The purpose of this design is to get a building design that provides facilities for teaching and learning activities by applying the bioclimatic concept. The method used is Ken Yeang's 9 bioclimatic principles. The building uses a bioclimatic approach by implementing energy saving and environmental awareness. That way it can support activities on the human and environmental aspects. The results obtained are building designs with bioclimatic applications, such as transitional spaces (open spaces), massive walls, overhangs, and secondary skin, balconies with vegetation as shadows, using natural ventilation with cross ventilation, and building relationships between landscapes that apply floor leveling games and the use of green roofs to reduce heat temperatures around the site by increasing greenery.
