Abstract
Humans can’t go on without education which is an important part of their development in life. The Basic Theory of Acids and Bases as one of the subjects for Chemistry Courses in High School level Education majoring in Natural Sciences is mandatory for high school students majoring in Natural Sciences to study. Science lessons have a stigma as a monotonous lesson. Therefore, it is necessary to innovate effective learning about the Basic Theory of Acids and Bases. Animation is an effective solution because the media can be used as entertainment as well as educative media. The design of the Basic Theory of Acids and Bases animation uses qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Qualitative methods include interviews and observations, where as quantitative methods include questionnaires. This method is aimed at subjects on the educational side related to the theory and students, as well as the entertainment side related to the target audience, namely science majors students. In addition to these methods, literature, comparator and existing studies are also carried out as a theoretical basis to strongly support the design. After that, the data analysis process is done by using qualitative descriptive analysis methods for interviews and observations, and quantitative for questionnaires. Therefore, datas from an accurate educational side, as well as an optimal entertainment side for the target audience are obtained. From the analysis process, a keyword can be found, namely "Exciting Acid-Base Study" which means exciting Acid-Base learning through animation. In the final stage, these keywords are used as a reference in the concept of this animation about the Basic Theory of Acids and Bases. Thus, the created concept is animation as an educational medium for the Basic Theory of Acids and Bases which is entertaining with exciting stories and characters based on that subject. The hope of this design is that it will be easier for students majoring in natural sciences to understand and be interested in the Basic Theory of Acids and Bases subject.
