Abstract
Precipitated Silica Factory from Sodium Silicate and Sulfuric Acid with a Precipitation Process with a capacity of 30,000 tons/year will be built in the JIIPE Industrial Area, Gresik, East Java. The raw material used is Sodium Silicate obtained from the distributor PT. Nusa Indah Mega Surabaya and Sulfuric Acid obtained from PT. Petrochemical Gresik. Description of the process of making precipitated silica by precipitation process, namely sulfuric acid dissolved in water until completely dissolved with a concentration of 17.5%. The sulfuric acid solution and sodium silicate solution are heated using a heater at 90°C before being added to the reactor. The sulfuric acid solution is then put into the reactor to react with 18% sodium silicate. Inside the reactor, a reaction occurs between sulfuric acid and assodium silicate to form silica slurry at 90°C. The reactor product is SiO2 which is then separated using a thickener and washed using a rotary drum vacuum filter at 50℃, where the product taken is in the form of a solid (cake) and the filtrate in the form of Na2SO4 is accommodated in a waste shelter, which will then be distributed. Then the solid will be dried using a rotary dryer using dry air at 110℃, until the moisture content is a maximum of 3%. The hot air and suspended solids exit the dryer and are then separated into a cyclone, where the hot air is discharged into the waste gas treatment, while the suspended solids are fed to the cooling conveyor along with the bottom product of the rotary dryer. The dry precipitated silica will be passed through a cooling conveyor to lower the temperature by 30℃. Then it enters the Size Reduction process which is transported by the Bucket elevator at the Ball Mill until the 200 Mesh product is temporarily accommodated in a hopper and ready to be packed in sacks weighing 25 kg and ready for distribution.
