Abstract

Water is a basic human necessity that must meet quality and quantity requirements, particularly for drinking purposes. The Segah River in East Kalimantan has the potential to serve as a raw water source for meeting the water demands of the Gunung Tabur and Segah Districts. This design project aims to determine a suitable treatment process based on raw water characteristics and to establish the dimensions and technical specifications of each drinking water treatment plant unit. The design methodology involved collecting secondary data, analyzing water demand based on population projections, selecting treatment processes, calculating treatment unit dimensions, preparing a hydraulic profile, and estimating the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Budget Plan (RAB). Based on the design calculations, the planned treatment capacity is 0.139 m³/s, with a 10-year planning period. The raw water characteristics used in the design include a total dissolved solids (TDS) concentration of 1,000 mg/L, total suspended solids (TSS) of 40 mg/L, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of 2 mg/L, chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 10 mg/L, pH of 7, and total coliform of 1,000 MPN/100 mL. The proposed treatment train consists of an intake, bar screen, collecting well, pre-sedimentation, neutralization, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, reservoir, and sludge drying bed. The design calculations include one flocculation basin measuring 16 m in length, 7.90 m in width, and 3 m in depth, as well as two sedimentation basins, each receiving approximately 0.07 m³/s. The design also includes Detail Engineering Design (DED) drawings, a hydraulic profile, construction quantity calculations, and a budget plan. The results are expected to provide a technical basis for developing a drinking water treatment plant that meets service demands and is appropriate for the characteristics of the Segah River as a raw water source.
