Abstract

This research aims to thoroughly analyze data on disaster events that occurred in Surabaya City during 2023. With the help of data processing technology, this research seeks to understand the patterns, types, and impacts of various recorded disaster events. The information studied includes the date of the event, the type of disaster, the location of the event, and the number of victims who were affected, injured or died. The initial step was to read and examine the data structure, followed by data cleaning by removing incomplete sections to ensure the accuracy of the analysis results. Next, descriptive analysis was conducted to summarize basic information such as the total number of events and the number of victims in various categories, which was then presented in tabular form for easy understanding. Further analysis was conducted to find certain patterns in disaster occurrence by grouping the data based on similarities in impact. This grouping provides insight into areas or types of disasters that have similar characteristics, making it easier to recognize trends and priorities for handling. Data visualization is also used as an important tool, by displaying bar graphs and pie charts that illustrate the distribution of the number of events as well as the proportion of each type of disaster in a visual and informative manner. The results of the analysis show that the “Medical Emergency” event is the most frequent type of disaster in Surabaya City throughout 2023. In addition, there is a significant difference in the number of events and victims in each sub-district. These findings provide a clear picture of the condition of disaster vulnerability in various regions, and can be used as a basis for consideration by the government and related parties in developing more targeted and effective disaster prevention, handling and mitigation strategies in the future.
