Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Glomus sp. as a biological agent in controlling bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum in tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.). This soil-borne disease poses a serious threat because it can cause plant death and significantly reduce crop yields. The study was conducted using a factorial completely randomized design (CRD) that tested two factors: application timing (simultaneously and two weeks before pathogen inoculation) and mycorrhiza dose (5 g, 10 g, and 15 g / plant), plus a control treatment. The results showed that the timing of mycorrhiza application prior to pathogen inoculation, when considered independently, had a highly significant effect on extending the incubation period to 9.45 days post-inoculation. The interaction between the application timing of two weeks before pathogen inoculation and a mycorrhiza dose of 15 g / plant (A2B3) proved to be the most effective in reducing the severity of bacterial wilt by 40.00% at 14 days post-inoculation, compared to the control, which reached 82.00%. This finding is highly significant because it demonstrates that pre-colonization of Glomussp. in the root system can trigger induced systemic resistance (ISR) and the accumulation of phenolic compounds, thereby serving as an environmentally friendly biological control strategy to reduce reliance on chemical pesticides.
