Abstract

PLN Indonesia Power UBP Grati is a gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) that plays an important role in meeting national electricity needs, but its operational process uses natural gas and High Speed Diesel (HSD) fuel. In its operation, the use of diesel fuel causes environmental impacts in the form of exhaust emissions. This study aims to calculate the eco-cost value, as well as provide improvement suggestions, and identify the life cycle stages of the electricity generation process. This study uses the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method with a gate-to-gate approach and data processing using simapro 10 software. The results show that the total eco-cost generated from the electricity generation process is IDR 2.127.458, consisting of human health eco-cost of IDR 2,047,455, ecosystem quality eco-cost of IDR 54.629, and resources eco-cost of IDR 25,374. Based on these results, improvements are proposed in the form of alternative energy sources using solar energy to reduce HSD, optimizing the air-fuel ratio in the combustion process to reduce exhaust emissions, and adding activated carbon doses to liquid waste treatment to reduce the content of heavy metals such as Fe, Zn, Cu, and Cr before being discharged into the sea.
