Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of India's rice export volume and the rupiah exchange rate on rice prices in Indonesia during the 2022–2024 period. Rice is a key national food commodity. High domestic consumption necessitates imports from several countries, including India—one of the world's largest rice exporters. Consequently, changes in India's rice export volume and fluctuations in the rupiah exchange rate have the potential to influence domestic rice price trends. The study utilizes monthly time-series data from January 2022 to December 2024, sourced from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), UN Comtrade, and Bank Indonesia. Analysis was conducted using a multiple linear regression approach, with rice price serving as the dependent variable, while India's rice export volume and the rupiah exchange rate served as independent variables. The results indicate that India's rice export volume has a significant negative impact on rice prices in Indonesia. This finding suggests that an increase in rice supplies from India tends to alleviate price pressure in the domestic market. The rupiah exchange rate was also found to have a significant impact on rice prices; a depreciation of the rupiah against the US dollar can raise import costs, thereby contributing to higher rice prices. Collectively, these two independent variables significantly influence rice prices in Indonesia. The findings are expected to inform the formulation of policies regarding price stabilization and national food security management. Keywords: India Rice Export Volume, Rupiah Exchange Rate, Rice Price, International Trade.
