Abstract

Rice is a strategic food commodity that plays an important role in meeting consumption needs. The level of demand and supply in Lamongan Regency has changed with the increase in the number of population. The imbalance in the demand and supply of rice commodities can have an impact on price stability and food security. Previous studies have only analyzed demand or supply factors separately using linear regression, so the simultaneous relationship between demand and supply has not been widely studied. The purpose of the study is to analyze the factors that affect the demand and supply of rice in Lamongan Regency. This study offers novelty through the application of the Two Stage Least Square (2SLS) simultaneous equation model to estimate the factors that affect the demand and supply of rice simultaneously at the Lamongan Regency level using quarterly data for the 2022-2025 period. The estimated results of this study are that the demand factor is influenced by the price of rice, income, while the price of corn as a substitute has no effect on demand. The supply of rice is influenced by 3 variables, namely the price of rice, the average rainfall and the price of fertilizer, while the supply of rice is not affected by rice production. Among the influencing variables, rice prices are the most dominant variable in influencing the demand and supply of rice in Lamongan Regency.
