Abstract
Salt is a consumer and industrial product whose main component is sodium chloride (NaCl). Salt is produced by extracting salt from seawater through natural evaporation under sunlight. A technology is needed to produce salt without relying on the climate by increasing the concentration of NaCl in seawater using a spontaneous heating method with an initial salt concentration of 3%. The process involves dispersing the salt solution into the air via a spraying system using a pump, with the aim of inducing water evaporation (spray dryer system), so that the solution falling into the pool experiences an increase in salt concentration. In this study, the variables used were the distance from the nozzle to the heating plate at 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 cm, with spray rates of 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 60, and 70 liters per hour. This study succeeded in achieving the highest NaCl concentration at a nozzle distance of 16 cm with a feed water flow rate of 45 L/hour, amounting to 15.2% Brix. The closer the nozzle is to the heater, the faster the feed water comes into contact with the heater; however, this results in a smaller spray pattern. The feed water spray velocity can also affect the evaporation rate; a higher spray velocity will result in a higher evaporation rate as well. At a flow rate of 60 L/h, the spray width exceeds the evaporation area, causing a significant amount of water to miss the heating plates.
