Abstract

Landslides are among the most frequent hydrometeorological disasters in Indonesia and are strongly influenced by rainfall, slope gradient, geology, soil characteristics, and land use. Ngantang District, Malang Regency, is characterized by mountainous topography and diverse land use, making it susceptible to landslide hazards. This study aimed to assess landslide susceptibility based on biophysical land characteristics using a descriptive-exploratory approach combined with field surveys, laboratory soil analysis, and Geographic Information System (GIS)-based spatial analysis. The parameters used included rainfall, slope, lithology, soil type, and land use. Overlay and weighted scoring methods were applied to generate landslide susceptibility maps. The results showed that landslide susceptibility in Ngantang District was classified into five categories: non-susceptible, slightly susceptible, moderately susceptible, susceptible, and highly susceptible. Moderately susceptible areas covered 4,654.8 ha, susceptible areas 4,388.1 ha, highly susceptible areas 1,491.0 ha, slightly susceptible areas 1,744.7 ha, and non-susceptible areas 335.7 ha. Slope gradient was identified as the dominant factor affecting landslide susceptibility. Most areas of Ngantang District fall into moderately susceptible and susceptible categories. The generated susceptibility map can be utilized as a basis for land-use planning and landslide disaster mitigation.
