Abstract
This study aims to provide solutions for farmers and the general public interested in growing spinach through urban farming, and to determine the composition of growing media that influences the growth and yield of red spinach. Spinach is a horticultural crop with high economic and nutritional value; therefore, research on growing media serves as an important foundation for increasing productivity. This study was conducted from May to June on the rooftop of a house in Pakis Tirtosari, Sawahan District, Surabaya City, East Java. This study employed a single-factor design using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with one factor. The single factor was a combination of growing media soil, rice husk charcoal, and chicken manure in a (volume : volume : volume) ratio, with four treatment levels repeated three times. Each treatment used three plant samples. The parameters used were fresh plant weight, canopy weight, and harvest index. The results showed that the TAP treatment (1:1:1) yielded the best results for fresh plant weight (13.56 grams), canopy weight (12.33 grams), and harvest index (0.89). The TAP (2:1:1) treatment yielded the lowest results for plant height (16.97 cm), stem diameter (0.37 mm), fresh plant weight (5.89 grams), canopy weight (4.67 grams), and harvest index (0.77). TAP (1:2:1) is recommended for use because it yields good results and is more economical; further research in combination with POC is needed to achieve even better growth results. Key words : horticulture, soil, rice husk charcoal, chicken manure
