Abstract
Modern digital ecosystems demand high-performance, stable, and efficient software, particularly when handling massive data volumes and user interactions through parallel computing and concurrency techniques. This research aims to conduct a holistic comparative study on the concurrency performance between the Go and Rust programming languages. The evaluation is carried out through three different workload scenarios: pure numeric computation (CPU-bound) using Matrix Multiplication and PageRank algorithms, and a hybrid network server scenario (I/O-bound and CPU-bound) using a REST API server executing the Aho-Corasick text-searching algorithm concurrently. Experiments were performed on an Apple M3 chip (ARM64 architecture) using automated testing methods to obtain objective quantitative data regarding execution time, throughput, latency, compile time, and binary file size. The results demonstrate that Rust excels in latency stability and execution efficiency, with a performance speedup of up to 1.74× in PageRank and 1.75× higher throughput in REST API scenarios compared to Go. Conversely, Go demonstrates superiority in development productivity, with compilation speeds up to 99.6% faster and binary file sizes that are 49.4% to 79.4% smaller than Rust. These findings provide an empirical foundation for technology architects in selecting the appropriate programming language based on system workload specifications, where Rust is more suited for extreme computation, while Go is highly competitive for agile infrastructure development.
