Abstract
The news about the Kim Soo-Hyun and Kim Sae-Ron case has received widespread attention in online media because it involves South Korean public figures and is a controversial issue that attracts public attention. This study aims to analyze the framing of the Kim Soo-Hyun and Kim Sae-Ron case news in Tempo.co media. This study uses a qualitative approach with the framing analysis method of William A. Gamson and Andre Modigliani. The research object is ten Tempo.co news articles published from March to April 2025. The results show that Tempo.co frames the case as a social, legal, and ethical issue through the use of framing devices and reasoning devices. The news also shows the practice of commodification of media content and audiences as explained in Vincent Mosco's perspective of media political economy, where controversial issues are repeatedly produced to attract audience attention and increase the media's economic value. In addition, based on the perspective of social reality construction by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann, Tempo.co not only conveys facts but also constructs reality through narrative selection, issue highlighting, and news repetition, thus shaping the public's perspective on the case. Thus, Tempo.co's reporting functions not only as a conveyor of information, but also as a medium that constructs social reality and represents media economic practices within the digital media ecosystem.
