Abstract
Generation Z, having grown up in the digital era, frequently relies on social media as a primary reference for understanding various aspects of life, including interpreting the realities of family relationships. The presence of family content, such as the one consistently presented by Gen Halilintar, often projects an image of a large family that is harmonious, cohesive, productive, and closely associated with a luxurious lifestyle (flexing). This study aims to describe and analyze Generation Z's perception of family representation in Gen Halilintar's social media content. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving five Generation Z informants selected through a purposive sampling technique based on the criteria of exposure and intensity of social media usage. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, which were then analyzed using Julia T. Wood's Perception Process theory, Erving Goffman's Impression Management, and Nick Stinnett's Family Strengths indicators. The findings reveal that Generation Z does not passively consume the content. Through the processes of selection, organization, and interpretation filtered by their respective Field of Experience, the informants are fully aware that the visual perfection displayed is merely a front stage curated for entertainment and commercial purposes. Exposure to a luxurious lifestyle does not, in fact, make their standard of family life materialistic. Instead, the content serves as a reflective mirror through which Generation Z redefines the foundation of strong families not by material wealth, but as an emotional safe space that upholds equality, open and non-judgmental communication, adequate financial realities, and religious values as a moral compass. This study concludes that Gen Halilintar's content is positioned purely as an entertainment stimulus, while Generation Z's standard of family harmony is fundamentally shaped by the intersection of their digital literacy and socio-economic realities in the real world. Keywords: Perception, Generation Z, Family Representation, Social Media Content, Impression Management, Family Strengths.
