Abstract
The rise of platform X has turned digital spaces into arenas of contested meaning and national identity formation, evident in the February 2026 controversy surrounding an LPDP scholarship alumna whose child holds foreign citizenship, which mobilized collective outrage (affective publics) across Indonesian digital spaces. This study examines the discursive construction of nationalism and national identity in comment sections of official @kompascom posts on platform X, using Rodney H. Jones's Digital Discourse Analysis across four dimensions: text, context, interaction, and ideology/power. This qualitative descriptive study employs a single case design, with a corpus of clean comments from ten official @kompascom posts, purposively selected through typical case sampling, without interviews. Findings show the discourse polarized into two axes: normative-punitive nationalism, which framed scholarships as a public mandate demanding reciprocal loyalty through digital moral policing and cancel culture, and cosmopolitan citizenship, which separated the state from its officials. The study identifies five findings: nationalism is measured through a fiscal relationship with the state rather than affective love of country; the cosmopolitan camp's criticism reflects deeper care than the normative camp's silence; the state actively participates in the discourse rather than merely being its object; the cosmopolitan narrative's low visibility stems from platform algorithms; and netizens assume punitive functions reserved for the state. Nationalism thus shifts into a fluid contested space, negotiated bottom-up by netizens before institutional legitimization. Keywords: Digital Discourse Analysis, National Identity, Cosmopolitan Citizenship, LPDP Alumni, Platform X.
