Abstract

Malang City has experienced increasing badminton activities and athlete development programs; however, the existing facilities have not fully met the standards for thermal comfort, training space quality, and sustainability. The tropical humid climate, characterized by high temperatures and humidity, requires the design of a badminton training center capable of controlling indoor environmental conditions to prevent adverse effects on athletes' performance. This design aims to develop a Badminton Training Center with a Green Architecture Approach in Malang City that complies with the technical standards of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) while accommodating integrated functions for athlete development, training, competitions, and residential facilities. The Green Architecture approach is implemented through building orientation and massing optimization, solar radiation control, controlled natural daylighting, vegetation integration, and energy-efficient mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. Mechanical air conditioning is applied in the main hall to maintain stable temperature and humidity in accordance with badminton standards, while passive design strategies are optimized for non-competition areas and public spaces. The design method includes site analysis, local climate analysis, user needs assessment, a review of badminton facility standards, and case studies as the basis for the design process. Based on these analyses, a design proposal for a Badminton Training Center with a Green Architecture Approach in Malang City is developed to accommodate athlete development, training, competitions, athlete accommodation, and public facilities in accordance with BWF standards.
