Abstract

People with visual impairments are a group of individuals with disabilities who require a built environment that is safe, legible, and supportive of independent mobility, particularly in terms of orientation and wayfinding. However, facilities specifically designed to accommodate the sensory needs of people with visual impairments remain limited. This condition highlights the need for a training facility that functions not only as a place for skill development but also as an environment that facilitates independent spatial orientation and mobility learning. The Blind Training Center is designed as a training facility for people with visual impairments by integrating a sensory-based wayfinding approach into its spatial organization and circulation system. This design applies the Sensory-Based Design Method, utilizing elements such as nodes, edges, tactile textures, and audio signage to create a non-visual navigation system that is intuitive and easy to understand. The circulation system is designed to be perceived through touch, sound, and the spatial characteristics of the environment, enabling it to accommodate users with varying levels of visual ability, ranging from low vision to total blindness. The primary objective of this design is to create a safe, inclusive, and accessible training environment that promotes the independence of people with visual impairments in their daily activities. By implementing an integrated wayfinding system, the proposed facility is expected to serve as an effective training center while contributing to the development of inclusive architecture that is responsive to the needs of people with visual impairments.
