Abstract

Melon plants (Cucumis melo L.) are a horticultural crop with high economic value, but their productivity has not yet reached its full potential due to suboptimal cultivation techniques, particularly in fertilizer management and the selection of appropriate varieties. This study aims to determine the effects of various potassium fertilizer concentrations and varieties on the growth and yield of melon plants under a fertigation system. The study was conducted at the screenhouse of the Research Department of PT Petrokimia Gresik from November 2025 to January 2026 using a factorial randomized block design (RBD). The first factor was the concentration of potassium fertilizer, consisting of AB-Mix (control), AB-Mix + 15% ZK, AB-Mix + 20% ZK, AB-Mix + 15% KCl, and AB-Mix + 20% KCl, while the second factor consisted of three melon varieties—Langkawi F1, Alisha F1, and Kinasih F1—each replicated three times, and the data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the BNJ test at the 5% level. The results showed a significant interaction between the two factors only for fruit weight, with the combination of 15% KCl and the Alisha variety yielding the highest fruit weight (1.224 kg). When considered individually, a 15% KCl fertilizer concentration had a significant effect on plant height at 35 days after sowing (237.78 cm) and the number of leaves at 35 days after sowing (26.00 leaves), For the treatments, a 20% ZK fertilizer concentration had a significant effect on stem diameter (13.22 mm) and leaf chlorophyll content (47.80), while a 20% KCl fertilizer concentration had a significant effect only on fruit sugar content (13.25% Brix). The Kinasih variety produced the highest leaf chlorophyll content (47.92) and the highest number of leaves at 21 days after planting (14.33 leaves), whereas the Alisha variety treatment had a significant effect only on the number of leaves at 28 days after planting (21.40 leaves), meanwhile, the Langkawi variety had a significant effect on stem diameter (13.37 mm), the earliest harvest age (67.93 HST), and sugar content (12.50 % Brix).
