Abstract
Globalization and the evolution of popular culture have led to a decline in public appreciation for local arts and culture—particularly East Javanese traditions such as *ludruk*, *remo* dance, and traditional crafts. Although Surabaya, as a metropolitan city, possesses significant potential to strengthen its cultural identity, existing arts and culture facilities are limited and fail to meet the needs for preserving and developing local art forms. Consequently, the design of the Surabaya Art and Culture Center is proposed to serve as a modern, inclusive, and engaging venue for education, artistic expression, performance, and cultural appreciation. A biomimetic architectural approach is employed to create an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient building with aesthetic qualities inspired by natural principles and forms. Utilizing a design methodology that encompasses literature reviews, primary and secondary data collection, site and spatial requirement analyses, and conceptual formulation, the resulting design features an auditorium, art gallery, museum, dance and theater studios, craft workshops, community art spaces, and a traditional culinary area. The application of biomimicry to the building's massing, structure, lighting, and ventilation systems creates an iconic structure that enhances user comfort while supporting environmental sustainability. The Surabaya Art and Culture Center is envisioned as both a city landmark and a hub for the preservation and development of East Javanese arts and culture that remains relevant to contemporary generations. Keywords: Biomimetic Architecture, Surabaya, Art and Culture Center, Sustainable Design.
